Common requirements

  • Be 18 years old (min)
  • Have a suitable health insurance
  • Have genuine intentions to stay temporarily in Australia
  • Have functional (min.) level of English knowledge
  • Meet health and character requirements

This is a temporary visa that allows you to undertake occupational training in Australia to enhance your professional skills. It requires you to be sponsored either by an Australian business or a government agency. It allows you to live and obtain workplace-based or professional development training in Australia for a period of up to 2 years.  It also allows you to include your family members.

This is a 3-stage process visa: sponsorship, nomination and visa application.

The nomination can be divided into 3 categories, and the requirements vary depending on the type of occupational training:

Required for licensing/registration or membership

Workplace-based training to obtain a compulsory licensing or registration or membership to work in a specific occupation in Australia or in the nominated trainee’s home country

Required to improve skills

Related to an eligible skilled occupation

Must have prior professional recent experience of minimum 12 months full-time in the last 24 months

Required for capacity building overseas

Workplace-based training in Australia for overseas students currently enrolled in a foreign institution

Australian or nominated trainee’s home country government support

Face-to-face teaching in Australia
